Know Jute

Jute, this fibrous plant in earlier days was also used by the inhabitants as a delicacy that went along with their staple diet. Jute was earlier called by its Bengali name 'Pat' (Patta in Sanskrit).

Jute is the 'Golden Fiber' of Bangladesh. It is mainly grown in the Bengal area (India and Bangladesh), and grows fully in 4-6 months. Jute is traditionally farmed; it is grown in similar conditions to organic farming. There is crop rotation, no pesticides and nothing is GM. When the plant is in flower, the jute is harvested, usually between July and October. Jute can grow as high as eight to 10 feet tall and is effective in controlling weeds. The crop is cut at the soil line and allowed to dry out. It is then bundled and goes through a process of retting where the raw jute fibers are extracted from the stems after they have been submerged under water and decomposed. It has various inherent characteristics like, high tensile strength, low extensibility, long durability and heat resistant, silkiness, luster and long staple length.

Raw Jute is a natural fiber, and one of the strongest around. Jute is the second most important vegetable fiber after cotton; not only for cultivation, but also for various uses. It's a lot like hemp. It's a biodegradable product used to make products like rope and decorative wrap. "The crop is also edible as the young shoots can be eaten." Cultivation of jute too plays an important role, as the stem is cut during harvesting a major portion of the root remains within the soil. This in due course decomposes and disappears into the soil. Through this process of bio-degradation it enriches the soil by way of providing natural manure for other subsequent crops to be grown there.

All of our raw Jute is imported from Bangladesh. Climate bestowed Bangladesh with the opportunity to become the natural home of the best quality Jute and for this Bangladesh is the world's largest grower of quality Jute. Jute is fully sustainable. It is estimated that there is enough jute in the world to provide everybody in the world with 2 bags per year! Bangladesh is the single largest jute producer in the world. Bangladesh is also the producer of best quality Jute of the world. Jute is not only a major textile fiber, but is also a raw material for nontraditional and value-added products helping in environment protection and maintaining ecological balance.

Jute in Ancient times

Initially, the jute fiber was made into ropes that were extensively used in the wind and hand driven sea vessels and ships. Later, Jute has been used since ancient times in Africa and Asia to provide cordage and weaving fiber from the stem and food from the leaves. Simple handlooms and hand spinning wheels were used by the weavers. History also states that Indians, especially Bengalis, used ropes and twines made of white jute from ancient times for household and other uses.

Jute in modern times

By 1838 newer technologies emerged and jute fibre was spun into better yarn and woven to make jute-cloth. Sacking bags and jute hand-bags were the initial developments and with that jute products started to enter the daily lives of people. Applications in carpet making and packaging has also been dominated by jute ever since jute started to be woven into fabric form.

Nowadays

Because of the raw hairiness and raw fiber style, raw jute fiber couldn' t be used in underwear. HelonTex use the cooking, bleach, glue system, spinning, post-processing technology and other high-tech line, cellulose material of the jute extracted are preserved the natural anti-bacterial substances. Jute viscose fiber is a true sense on the new textile raw materials, very good spin-ability, and conventional spinning equipment will be able to meet the requirements of spinning. Dyeing bright, wearing comfortable, at the same time, this fiber has the characteristics of raw jute fabrics styles.

jute viscose fiber has mature technology and has applied for a national patent. The fiber has be used in USA,CHINA ,South Asia # Successful test spinning, yarn from low to high yarn; from plain cloth to Twill, and finally to the chromatin. Preliminary exploration of a number of spinning, weaving, dyeing and finishing experience, with the constant deepening market development, jute viscose fiber will have more and more increasingly broad prospects.
